Helping your Child
There are many ways to help your child enjoy soccer.
Get involved with their team in some way (just helping out with the coach or manager will be a great asset, and you will probably enjoy it.)
Do it now before the kids grow up and you wonder where the time went
Spend some quality time with the kids
Every night I get home, my kids want to play soccer with me.
I love that and look forward to coming home.
Being involved and playing with the kids gives you a new lease on life and gets you outdoors.
Some Tips
- Lern the rules
- Playing a little game of 1 against 1 (you can make up goals, or if you are super keen buy a couple of pugg goals)
- Throw the ball to them so they can control it and pass it back
- Get a ball each and play follow the leader
- Get out there and have a go!
- Have a juggling contest (see the page on juggling)
- Try and have little contest, keep score, but be flexible on the rules and have fun
- Above all have fun with your kids!!
Some Technical Help
The more touches your child has with a ball, the more confident he/she will become and ultimately be a better player and enjoy playing more.
See the Ball Mastery page for some videos that show you how to help Master the Ball and ensure your child gets a few steps ahead of the rest
Kicking the ball
There are many ways to kick a ball with all parts of the foot.
Kicking correctly should be mastered by young players at the earliest possible opportunity.
It is important to teach the young players NOT to kick with their toes.
Study the following to help your child learn how to kick properly
The Push Pass
- The push pass is the most used pass in Soccer
- It is the most accurate pass
- It is used for short to medium length passes
- The ball is kicked with the inside of the foot (this is the flatest and largest surface are to contact the ball with)
